Ina came in uninvited and would not leave
A season for the giving and to receive
Before I knew what hit me she’d made her move
Then she left me lying there like she’d something to prove
In three days’ time I’d see a ghoulish face
Looking back from the mirror
Leave me alone don't bother
Just let me sleep
This microscopic infiltration
Has drained the life right from me
Ina came in through the corner of my eye
She made herself at home as I stood by
With furious precision cells divide
Riding a lymphocytic wave rising to meet the tide
I can’t shake you from my system
Though I will try
Four full days and nights and counting
Innards unfurled before me
Taciturn no longer burning
She’s in retreat
Ina’s gone but I’m still learning
To seize the day before me

RUNNIN’
I was born alright, I ended up this way
A cored-out husk of who I once was
Everything was going fine, at least ok
Then along came seventh grade
A burned-out Lazarus repeating the same soliloquy
Behind my eyelids while I’m sleeping
A single pulsing yellow jacket bee
Runnin' runnin' runnin' runnin'
My route of egress was plotted carefully
But there he was, waiting for me
A circle formed around us. I could not breathe.
Nor could I flee.
Fists were flying, fast and mighty, a swarm of killer bees
From here on out it's purgatory
A flimsy wooden vessel out to sea
Runnin' runnin' runnin' runnin UNTIL I CAN'T RUN ANY MORE
The undertow will bring you down, your last living memory
Footprints obscured beneath the snow
I was born of fire conceived in flame
A burned-out Lazarus so twisted
Just touch my skin let me know I'm alive
God walked away as I sat there
